Equipping children in community involvement
Our community involvement extends outside the school grounds. Whether it’s a fun run or volunteering project every bit makes a difference and we aim to set that example for our younger generation. Each year we also launch a major Extend-a-Hand initiative that equips children of all ages to contribute to the wider community. Read about our past and present projects.
Darren’s Dare was launched in September 2016 with a goal to raise 100 blood donations by the end of October. To encourage everyone to participate, Extend Director Darren Stevenson agreed to complete one of three dares that the public could vote on if we reached our goal. Watch the original launch video here. All Extend staff, families, school communities, friends and family were invited to participate by donating blood under Extend’s Red25 group, ‘Extend After School Care.’ Watch Darren’s official announcement below before he jumps off a plane!
We’d like to thank the following suppliers for working with us on our promotional video:
Run for the Kids, 2016
Once again Extend’s Head Office team participated in the Run for the Kids to help raise money for the Good Friday appeal. Some ran, some strolled, and some did a combination of both to make it to the finish line. It was a rewarding experience to join 27,000 other race-goers in raising 1.7 million for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Check out the happy snaps on Facebook.
St Kilda Mums, 2015
On Friday 13 November, our Head Office team visited St Kilda Mums, and for many it was a second time volunteering there. St Kilda Mums is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to reuse and recycle pre-loved baby and children’s items such as clothes, prams, cots, and more. These donations are distributed to families experiencing hardship in Melbourne and surrounding towns. This time, our Head Office team helped with sorting and creating nappy gift packs and baby bottle packs, creating toiletry packs for mums, assembling cots, and sorting through clothing donations. Check out the happy snaps on our Facebook page!
Meals on Wheels, 2015
In 2015, Extend partnered with Meals on Wheels and invited children to make placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients. Throughout Term 4, children had the opportunity to make placemats in Before School Care and After School Care. Together, we were able to send a total of 1,241 placemats to Meals on Wheels! Congratulations on a fantastic effort.
Run 4 the Kids, 2015
Once again Extend gathered a team of participants to take part in Run for the Kids, which took place on Sunday 22 March 2015. Together they joined more than 32,000 runners and helped raise $1.8 million for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Check out the photos from the day.
The Share Christmas Project with the Basket Brigade, 2014
This year Extend teamed up with Magic Moments Foundation by participating in the Basket Brigade Program to help families in need. The Basket Brigade Program raises funds throughout the year in order to put together gift packages for families in need with items including food, necessities, and even toys. The children at Extend were given the wonderful opportunity to hand craft the Christmas cards that will go inside this year’s baskets. Check out the photos on Extend’s Facebook Page. Read more about Magic Moments and the Basket Brigade Program and donate to this worthy cause.
St Kilda Mums, August 2014
On Friday 1 August, our Head Office team embarked on a corporate volunteering project with St Kilda Mums, Victoria. St Kilda Mums is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to reuse and recycle pre-loved baby and children’s items such as clothes, prams, cots, and more. Small gestures make a BIG difference, 2013
Watch the video!
This year’s annual Extend-a-Project encouraged children to brainstorm ideas on how they could make a BIG difference with various small gestures. We were absolutely blown away at the different interpretations, ideas, and all the hard work that was put into it by the children and educators. Well done to everyone involved! Your child’s work might be featured in this video!

1000 cranes for Japan, May 2011
The children at Extend joined forces in a combined effort to make 1000 cranes; dedicated to the people in Japan who were affected by the earthquakes and tsunamis. With the help and support of family and friends, the staff at Extend Head Office ploughed their way through the charity run to help raise money for the Good Friday appeal at the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne on Sunday 14 March 2010.
